About Sara CoonsI am the Instructional Technology Specialist at Fern Bluff Elementary. I previously taught 2nd grade at Double File Trail Elementary. I was in the classroom for 14 years before transitioning to this position during the 2015-2016 school year. I have taught Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade. While teaching 2nd grade I had the honor of being a Next Generation Digital Classroom Trailblazer! This means I had iPads in my classroom for each and everyone of my students! It was an amazing experience and I learned so much! Now my job is to get teachers excited about technology and teach them how they can integrate technology into their classroom to enrich their curriculum. I love my job and enjoy getting to work with teachers and their amazing students!

My teaching philosophy
I believe that every child can learn. I believe in developing a growth mindset and teaching staff members and students about the brain so that they too can develop a growth mindset. I believe that every child should have the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe and happy environment. I believe in teaching children at their level and having high expectations. I believe that parents are their child's first teachers and without their support, students will not reach their full potential. It takes a village! I may spend more time teaching teachers but my philosophy stays the same. I support teachers so they may support students and help each child reach their full potential.
Outside the Classroom
I am married and have a seven year old son, Grayson and a one year old dog, Bentley. They both keep me very busy! I enjoy reading and crafting when I have the time! Grayson and I try to go to the public library once a week to check out some new books. We love story time! I enjoy reading fiction and educational books. You can never stop learning!
